“Water, water, everywhere but not a drop to drink.” That old idiom has been on our lips for years. It is of course derived from people who made their lives on the sea. The water was everywhere but thirsty as they were it was sea water, sure to do more harm than good.
Today this phrase is rarely taken literally but perhaps we should rethink that. The opportunities for things to arrive in our water that don't belong there, both in tap water and bottled water, are infinite. Companies dump chemicals in different water supplies, the government can only do so much to protect us from this. Same goes for average citizens. Just last week I saw a shopping cart barely floating in a reservoir that provides water for my whole town. A shopping cart! That can't be good.

We're not here to sugar coat this, bad things happen to water supplies and there is only so much control average citizens might exert on these incidences.
